90 Days Alcohol-Free at 60+: I Thought I’d Miss the Wine

But What I Really Missed Was Me.

What really happens when a woman over 60 quits drinking alcohol for good? After 90+ days without wine, I’m sharing the surprising mental clarity, emotional breakthroughs, and physical benefits that came with removing alcohol from my life.

If you’re sober curious, starting your alcohol-free journey, or just wondering what life looks like on the other side of the wine glass, read on — because this transformation at 60+ is about more than sobriety. It’s a full-body renovation.

When I first gave up alcohol, I thought the hardest part would be saying goodbye to my glass of wine at night.

What I didn’t expect was how much I’d reconnect with the woman I had almost forgotten — me. The real me. The clearer, calmer, stronger version of Lisa Renee that was hiding underneath the wine fog.

Today, I’m over 90 days alcohol-free, and I wanted to pause and share the honest truth about what this journey has really been like. Spoiler alert: it’s not just about the wine. It’s about renovating your whole life from the inside out — especially after 60.

💪Physical Benefits of Quitting Alcohol After 60

One of the biggest surprises of quitting alcohol in midlife? The physical changes. My body began to heal — inside and out.

✅ Steady Hands & Balanced Energy

Before, I had a slight hand tremor. I blamed aging. Turns out, it was alcohol.

✅ Softer Skin & Less Bloating

At 60+, skin changes are expected. But cutting alcohol gave me a glow I hadn’t seen in years. My face is less puffy, and the redness faded fast.

✅ Deeper Sleep & Reduced Inflammation

Around the 45-day mark, I started sleeping through the night. No 2 a.m. anxiety jolts. By the end of month two, I was waking up rested, not dragging and definitely “not hungover.”Plus, my joints feel better and less inflamed.

And the scale? It’s slowly moving in the right direction — but the non-scale victories are even more satisfying.

💓 The Emotional Benefits That Caught Me Off Guard

Emotional and Mental Benefits of an Alcohol-Free Life at 60+

I was afraid I’d feel deprived. What I didn’t see coming was how relieved I’d feel without alcohol in my system.

What no one told me is how much alcohol messes with your emotions — especially for women over 50. The mental fog, anxiety, and self-doubt were sneakily linked to wine.

✅ A Calmer, More Confident Mind

Without alcohol, my brain got quieter. My heart stopped racing. I no longer wake up wondering, “Why did I drink again?”

✅ Clear Goals & Better Focus

I’m now building The Lisa Renee Project — a brand and YouTube channel dedicated to helping women over 60 transform their lives, starting with their mindset and sobriety.

✅ Emotional Stability

I’m not numbing anymore — and that means I feel more joy, more presence, and yes, sometimes more discomfort. But I’m actually living, not escaping.

  • No more guilt. That endless loop of “Why did I drink again?” is gone. Peace is in.
  • Calmer heart. Literally and emotionally. My heart doesn’t race with anxiety like it used to.
  • More joy. I didn’t realize how numbed out I was. Now, I can actually feel the good stuff again.

🧠 Mentally Clear, Spiritually Strong

The brain fog lifted around the 6-week mark. And what replaced it was… clarity. Direction. Focus.

  • I can plan again. I’m dreaming big and actually taking action — like building The Lisa Renee Project to inspire other women over 60 who are ready for their own comeback.
  • I trust myself. That’s a big one. When you keep promises to yourself, confidence grows. And that feeling is priceless.

Sobriety Over 60 Is More Than a Milestone — It’s a Midlife Renovation

If you’re wondering if it’s too late to quit drinking, or if you’ve failed too many times before, hear this:

It is never too late to come home to yourself.

This journey has been more than just 90 days without alcohol. It’s been a return to my body, my purpose, my peace.

At 63 I am:

  • Stronger in my workouts

  • Clearer in my vision

  • More connected to my purpose

  • Proud of the woman I’m becoming

And it all started by taking alcohol off the table.

🎯 This Isn’t Just Sobriety — It’s a Full-Body Renovation

I’m not a big fan of term “sober” but use it at times because that’s the word most people recognize and associate with being alcohol-free. I associate it with negative meanings of ‘recovery’ and ‘addict’ so use it rarely.

However, what is actually happening at 63 and ‘sober’ is unexpected. But it is real. I’m rebuilding my life — stronger and more grounded than ever before.

And physical strength becomes just as important as staying alcohol-free. All my strength training comes from the valuable programs, like the one I’m using right now, at Beachbody.com

Going alcohol-free hasn’t just changed my evenings. It’s changed my energy, my focus, my body, my skin, my sleep, my relationships… and yes, my purpose.

I used to think wine was my reward. Now I know I am. I am alive. I’m worthy. I’m relevant. I am fearless!
